Vendor Spotlight-Stephen Jerkins Photography
Stephen Jerkins Photography is our vendor today and I'm so excited about sharing his talent with all of you! Stephen brings out so much unique creativity into his art and has shot many beautiful weddings. With so many great photographers in the Nashville area, it's important to get a good look at the style of many different ones. Check out what Stephen said about his business and what makes him different. How did you get into photography?
I've always admired photography as art, but actually 'getting in to it' and proactively improving began 6 or 7 years ago with an old Sony point-and-shoot I used to carry around when the band I'm in was touring. We'd post galleries on our site and with an audience, I felt the constant need to make cooler photos than the ones from the day before. Although I don't believe one needs expensive gear to make great photos, I invested in a DSLR and good lenses about 3 years ago, honed my craft and have made it into my job.
What do you love about photography?
I love many things about photography, but most of all the time-travel aspect of an old photo... and Shorpy.com is pretty much my favorite place on the web. Go there and as an intro to the site, search the word 'basketball' (for example). Then sit back and enjoy.
What would you say is your photography style?
I'd describe my style as art-directed photojournalism. I try to use natural light and as little post-production as possible.
Do you shoot digital or film?
Digital.
Tell us why brides should choose you to capture their wedding day.
Most importantly, I can document a bride's wedding day in a beautiful way. But another aspect of the job - of which not all photographers are capable - is being a pleasant person to have around. The last thing a bride wants is a dolt hanging around on her most special day and I can confidently say I am undoltish. I pride myself in making the bride's and groom's photography experience an enjoyable one. And if I can allow myself some bragging, mothers of the bride tend to love me.
We asked Stephen a couple questions about himself:
Mac or PC? Mac
Tea or Coffee? Milk and sugar with a little bit of tea.
iPhone or Blackberry? iPhone
Favorite Song Right Now. Today, it's 'Mean To Me' by Ben Kweller. Yesterday it was 'St. Judy's Comet' by Paul Simon.
When was your last high five and what were the circumstances? Last Tuesday, when my wife and I discovered 8 seasons of Magnum P.I. available for streaming on Netflix
