Vendor Spotlight - Joshua Gull Photography
Nashville is blessed with some amazing photographers and Josh Gull is definitely one of them. Josh is one photographer who puts everything he has into his work and truly cares for his clients. We asked Josh to chat with us about his business, Joshua Gull Photography, and here is what he had to say: How did you get into photography?
It all started as a creative outlet in high school. I was big into cars--particularly loving their lines and details. I began photographing my own car, then friends' cars, and then I began taking on freelance automotive work. Over the years I found myself becoming bored with automotive work and more interested in documenting life and all of the things that make life so special to me--particularly the relationships we share with others.
What do you love about photography?
Whether it's a snapshop of everyday life, a beautiful portrait of someone, or a series of photos that document a wedding day, photography tells a story. And I've always loved a good story. But more importantly than that, I believe the things we experience and the relationships we share with others are what make this life worth living, and photography has the ability to preserve our most special moments and memories for a lifetime (and beyond). It's amazing to me to think that photographs I've taken could become family heirlooms handed down for generations to come. That's powerful stuff.
What would you say is your photography style?
Honest and organic. Whether I'm shooting in a photojournalistic approach for documentary purposes, taking portraits, or looking for creative crops and compositions to push myself artistically, it is my goal above all else for my photography to be a natural and genuine reflection of my subjects and their connection together.
Do you shoot digital or film?
Both. Up until this year all my professional work has been digital, but I have been shooting more and more film personally and 2012 is going to be the year I incorporate more film into my professional work alongside digital.
Tell us why brides should chose you to capture their wedding day
The day my wife and I got married was one of the most meaningful days of my life. Those memories documented through photography are one of the most special things we have left from that day. Our wedding photography means the world to us and I want the brides I work with to have that experience as well. In addition to the emotional connection I have to the weddings I photograph, I only accept a limited number of wedding commissions yearly in order to provide the highest level of service and attention to the brides I work with.
Some personal questions about Josh:
Mac or PC - We've got both in our home. I do all my work on a custom-built PC but everything else is Mac.
Tea or Coffee - I love both as long as they're sweet enough (and preferably iced).
iPhone or Blackberry - Easy. iPhone.
Favorite Song Right Now - Tough one since my musical tastes are all over the map. Right now I'd say it's a tie between The Band Perry's "All Your Life" and Bon Iver's "Minnesota, WI." They both get a lot of airplay right now for me.
