Vendor Spotlight-Oakwood Cleaners

Today we had the pleasure to feature Oakwood The Greener Cleaners and speak with Alan and Rhonda Wernick the owners. Oakwood Cleaners is Nashville’s only wedding gown cleaning specialists certified by the Association of Wedding Gown Specialists. What made you go into the business of dry cleaning and laundry?

My husband was looking for a business to invest in and had done extensive research on the dry cleaning business. He thought it would prove to be interesting and he was correct. About the time he was ready to make a purchase Oakwood The Greener Cleaners became available and here we are. We loved that Oakwood was a “Green” Cleaner and was the only couture cleaner in the greater Nashville area that used the GreenEarth® cleaning process. He also loved the niche’ market we serve being a certified couture cleaner and member of the Association of Wedding Gown Specialists.

What type of services do you provide?

Oakwood The Greener Cleaners is an all inclusive cleaning stop. We specialize in hard to clean fabrics and couture clothing, wedding gowns, formal wear, restoration, laundry, and leather. We also provide in house alterations.

What are all the different ways brides can use your services?

To begin with, brides use us for altering their wedding gowns as well as brides maids, mother of the bride, etc. We can press gowns before the wedding and clean and preserve the gown after the wedding. Destination weddings are not a problem as we can package the gown for travel! Oakwood will even pick up your gown at the bridal salon it was purchased at and have it ready for you to try on for alterations or press it ready for your wedding. We can deliver it to your destination and pick it up after the wedding, bring it back to Oakwood so you won’t have to worry about it. (Special arrangements for the pick- up and delivery must be made well in advance and is only valid in the metro Nashville area)

Explain the process of working with a bride

If a bride is coming to us for alterations, we ask that she start the process 3 ½ to 4 months in advance of the wedding date. We schedule 3 fittings, each a month apart. We request that under garments and the correct shoes be brought to each appointment. Our expert wedding gown specialist will consult with the bride at the first fitting allowing an hour of time. The dress will be pinned and alterations will begin. The last fitting is to make sure everything fits perfectly, we usually schedule that 2 weeks in advance of the wedding date. Then the dress is pressed and packaged for the bride to take with her for her special day.

Cleaning and preservations do not require an appointment, although you need to be ready to spend at least 15 to 20 minutes of your time. A customer service representative will go over every detail of the dress with you to thoroughly document your gown prior to processing.
