Vendor Spotlight-Top Tier Band

Top Tier Band is one of Nashville's hottest bands specializing in weddings and corporate functions. Not only do they play lively dance music, but soft jazz as well. A stylish and well-rounded group that clearly likes to have fun- what more could you want for your big day?! Check out what JD had to say about his band:

Explain your music style at weddings:

Our repertoire consists of songs from the 50's through today, covering pop, rock, disco, country and jazz. With that said, the largest part of our repertoire focuses on fun, danceable songs from the 70's and 80's that everyone knows and loves! We often do a dinner set with jazz music, then kick it into the booty shakin', sing-along tunes the rest of the evening!

How do you handle music selections for weddings?

After playing hundreds of weddings, we definitely know which songs go ever well without resorting to playing a bunch of "cheesy" music! I also talk to the brides to make sure we're on the same page in terms of the type of music they want. We always learn two songs free of charge and let brides tell us beforehand if there are any songs on our songlist that they definitely want to hear or don't want to hear. We're also happy to take requests while performing.

How many musicians will be in the band?

Our standard band is a 5-piece: female singer, keyboardist/singer, guitarist/singer, bassist/singer, drummer/singer. Clients always get the option of hiring us as a 6-piece band which then includes our sax player who plays tenor, alto, and soprano.

Explain your process while working with a bride:

I know that communication is key when it comes to not only making a bride feel at ease, but also making sure everything runs as smoothly as possible for her big day! I make sure they know they can contact me at any time with questions. A couple months before the wedding, I send a "wedding info" sheet for them to fill out so I know all the special dance tunes (first dance, father/daughter, etc), any songs we need to learn, the bridal party introductions, the time for bouquet/garter toss, cake cutting, etc. Sometimes brides don't hire wedding planners, so I end up with that job by default! :) I'm extremely detail-oriented and it always pays off in making the reception run flawlessly.
