We asked our planners to give us some of their best tips for newly engaged couples. Here is their advice:

Adriel Nutter Events:

When planning your wedding, don’t worry about what everybody else is doing, what the traditions are, or what’s trending. You can’t ever go wrong with planning a wedding that’s uniquely and perfectly you (and your fiancé!) in every way
My advice would be to take it all in and enjoy every part of the wedding planning process. If it stresses you out, ask for help. This time should be fun and exciting, don’t let the small details take that away from you. Also, research your vendors. Ask around, see what other vendors say about them, read reviews. You want to make sure that you are getting good quality vendors and getting what you are paying for.
Congratulations on your engagement! After the excitement has settled a bit, it is imperative to tackle your wedding budget. As bride and groom, you should talk to both sets of parents, either together or individually, and determine who is going to be contributing what funds towards your wedding.

Your first few commitments are going to be big ticket items in your budget; the venue, the photographer, and the entertainment. It is important that you talk to an experienced wedding planner to get a realistic rundown of what you can afford before you sign any contracts. A wedding planner can be absolutely invaluable to ensuring you do not get stuck in a situation that you can’t afford or back out of.

Wedding planning should be fun, and the sooner you get the budget conversation out of the way, the more smooth sailing your planning will be!
1. Trust vendor recommendations from your planner, other vendors and recently married friends. Ask your planner what couples usually spend on other vendors’ services before booking or getting your heart set on them. Get educated on what things cost in the area.
2. Think about ways to personalize your day (hobbies, alumni, pets, favorite foods!)
3. Set your budget and guest list first.
4. You don’t have to do it all now! Start with design and the big items (venue, photography) and things will fall into place thereafter.
5. Relax and enjoy being engaged - this time is short and you’ll want to look back with positive memories, not stressful ones!
Before creating your Pinterest boards, spending hours on wedding blogs, or buying every wedding magazine available, take time to figure out your priorities as a couple. It is so easy to get swayed by what is trendy or what you see online. Your wedding should reflect your personality. So, take time to set those goals before anything. The best weddings are the ones that are filled with your style.
