Planner Profile: Kennedy Occasions
Today we are spotlighting our member Kennedy Occasions! This planning and floral company was founded in 2010 by Emily Kennedy.
I plan weddings so that brides can enjoy their day: free from the frustration and the strain of playing the roles of planner/daughter/bride. I plan weddings so that mothers and sisters can be with the bride as she prepares for her special day. I plan weddings so that parents can enjoy this time with their families and not worry about final payments and logistical details. I plan weddings so that this life-changing occasion can be nothing short of spectacular: well-planned, timelessly-styled and flawlessly executed.
What is your trademark or super power?
Hm, tough one! Probably being prepared. I can stitch up a veil, present a fresh pair of black socks, fix a damaged 'welcome' sign and pull just about anything out of my Mary Poppins bag! I'm crafty and quick on my feet, which comes in handy on a wild wedding day!
What do your specialties include?
My team and I plan and design weddings so that your life-changing occasion can be nothing short of spectacular...well planned, timelessly designed and flawlessly executed! I've surrounded myself with team members that all truly bring something special and unique to the table. I'm the big picture and overall design person, where my team members bring design execution and logistical expertise. We make an INCREDIBLE team on an event day.
Do you have a signature aesthetic?
Florals: garden-inspired and timeless. Not to be misunderstood as "classic" and old-fashioned! We love unusual blooms and wild greenery as can be found in nature....we aren't trying to make wild things wilder or shove them all in an unnatural basketball shape!
Weddings: tailored and timeless! I don't want a couple's decisions to date stamp their wedding in 2012. I want the photos on their mantle to be relevant 30 years later and for them to harbor no regrets in the design decisions they made! (i.e. timeless trumps trendy!)
What do you enjoy most about your work?
The big picture work and dreaming up designs with our clients. I love taking their bazillion Pinterest ideas and creating something uniquely 'them' with colors and textures, floral design, event flow, etc.
Who is your dream client?
A couple that knows themselves. That values the marriage over the wedding and who values the talents and skills of their vendor team.
What is one of the biggest or most important lessons you've learned since becoming an entrepreneur?
How to evolve and pivot! Kennedy Occasions started as a husband and wife wedding planning side-hustle, but has morphed into an Emily-led floral and design-focused event production company. Our story is woven with an appreciation for craftsmanship, a fascination with color and texture, and an invaluable talent for interpreting a bride’s ideas and Pinterest boards. What started over 10 years ago as a dream in a one-bedroom condo has evolved into a thriving, life-giving operation with a beautiful floral design space, an incredible team of planners and designers, and the most precious clients!
Where’s the craziest place you’ve ever worked?
I worked at a calendar kiosk in our hometown mall as a young teenager!
On my days off you can find me…
Those are rare! Traveling, skiing, reading, at the lake, napping!
I’m dying to take a trip to…
Egypt. It's been on my bucket list for eons.
If you owned a restaurant, what food would it serve?
ooo! Hubs and I wanted to open up a food truck that served eastern European chimney cakes!
