March Group Meeting-The Horton Building

For our March Group Meeting we meet at The Horton Building. A newer Nashville venue with 2000 square feet of beautiful reclaimed hardwood floors, exposed brick walls, modern lighting, and a 200 sq ft built-in stage, this Nashville event space is sure to wow your guests. We invited Caley with Caley Newberry Photography to come & take some shots of the evening for us.

We took advantage of the built-in stage & had The Golden Band come play for our planners!

The floral arrangements created by Mary with Rosemary & Finch Floral Design matched the space perfectly.

Savor the Flavor created an amazing spread of delicious foods for us.

Savor the Flavor surprised us with a special dessert, Donut Bananas Foster!!

Vendor Spotlight-Fabulous Frocks of Nashville

Looking for a designer dress, but don’t have the budget? Check out Fabulous Frock Bridal, they are a bridal boutique with new, gently used, or sample sales dress for the budget savvy bride. Owner Amy tell us more about her boutique.

Tell us about Fabulous Frock Bridal

Fabulous Frocks Bridal was founded on the concept that every bride deserves not only her dream dress, but an equally great shopping experience. We offer brides couture gowns and the boutique shopping experience, without the high price tag. Each bride will receive a private appointment in our luxury boutique while trying on gowns from top bridal designers. In addition to bridal gowns, we offer new to order bridesmaid dresses, jewelry, custom made sashes, and veils.

Where do you get dresses from?

Any gown we take in originally retailed for over $2,000 and was purchased or designed within the last five years. The majority of the gowns that we have are samples from a traditional bridal store. I like to explain our store as a never ending sample sale. We carefully inspect each dress and only accept gowns of the highest quality. Brides also bring us gowns that they purchased and perhaps changed their mind about and never wore, or their personal wedding gown that they did wear and wanted to share the love with another bride. We also receive gowns directly from designers. In addition to our store, we also have locations in Boston, Charlotte, Washington D.C, Charleston, and Anchorage. Our brides have access to any gown at these locations, giving her nearly unlimited options of designer gowns right at her fingertips.

What are the price range of the dresses?

This all depends on what inventory we get in, as it changes almost weekly. Right now the prices range from $1,000 to $4,500, we can cater to almost every bride.

Tell us why brides should choose Fabulous Frock Bridal.

Brides should choose Fabulous Frocks because we offer them a unique way to get their dream designer gown without breaking the bank. With our mint condition gowns being 30-70% off original retail, I can’t think of a reason not to get your gown with us! We only offer private appointments and devote 100% of our attention on our brides, the way it should be. We currently house over 70 different designer gowns and with no two being the same, we are sure to please even the most selective brides.

2nd Annual Nashville Wedding Planners Retreat

For our 2nd Annual NWPG Retreat, we wanted to create an atmosphere for our planners to relax & have a great time together. With wedding season approaching, we needed a fun retreat before the madness hits. It was only appropriate that we had custom stationery created for our planners to enjoy. Jessica with J. Amber Creative created an amazing suite for us.

We reached out to Shelter & Roost, they own several properties in the Franklin/Leiper Forks area and we had the luxury of staying in their property, Leiper’s Fork Inn. The home is simply gorgeous and decorated so well.

We welcomed the planners to the house, with lots of champagne & in room surprises.

Our favorite treat were macarons from Sweet Darling Patisserie, a local company with the best macarons.

After relaxing, getting our makeup done, & lots of fun we got ready to head out to dinner. The Big Love Bus came to pick us up & take us to Chuy’s for a fun Mexican dinner.

After a long night of fun, we woke up smelling bacon coming from the kitchen. Jo’s Custom Cakes & Catering snuck in & laid out a delicious breakfast for all the planners.

The best part of breakfast was the candied bacon, a favorite among our planners and was requested from Jo.

Here are all the vendors that participated with our retreat, check out the #2105NWPGRetreat to see more pictures from all our amazing planners!!

Vendor Spotlight- East Ivy Mansion

We were so excited to visit the venue, East Ivy Mansion for one of our meetings last year. East Ivy is unlike any other wedding venue in Nashville. Once you walk through the gates, you might think you were in a gorgeous Italian city. The best part is the huge pool & guest rooms for your wedding guests. We caught up with their Events Coordinator Jamie, to tell us more about this beautiful venue.

Tell us about your venue.

The East Ivy Mansion is a historic home built in 1876 for Senator Henry Cooper. Boosting over 44,000 sq ft of indoor outdoor space, the property is Nashville’s hidden gem that sits 2 minutes from downtown. Exquisite gardens, koi ponds, Italian brick arches, a Grecian pool and cabana are just a few of the unique features at East Ivy. We can accommodate up to 250 and own tenting in case of inclement weather.

What makes your venue different from other venues?
We bill ourselves as a destination wedding location. East Ivy becomes your personal home, as we only do 1 event a day. You have full access to the entire gated property including the pool and cabana, and 16 people stay overnight in the mansion, as well as the bride and groom in the gorgeous detached honeymoon suite, which opens up to the pool and outdoor shower. It’s a great way to kick off your honeymoon, and to celebrate with friends and family. It is more than just a ceremony and reception, it’s a wedding experience.

What is the history of your venue? (How did it get started, etc.)
East Ivy has always a private residence, but 2 years ago when we took ownership of the property, we started doing special events as well.

What are some of your wedding and reception options?
East Ivy does not do “packages” which is awesome, because it allows the bride to customize her day to her budget and preferences. No wedding at East Ivy is ever the same, as we pride ourselves on giving our brides lots of options of how their day will look. We have multiple locations on site to have both your ceremony and reception, and space does not need to be flipped.

Does your venue require use of your preferred vendors, or are brides free to bring their own?
We have wonderful list preferred vendors that we work with from caterers, rentals, florists, photographers, to entertainment. We do allow outside vendors, but there are a few categories like catering that would require a buyout.

In your opinion, which event (or type of event) has most creatively taken advantage of your venue, and what made that event a success?
I am in the process of planning what I THINK will be the most creative event so far at East Ivy! I have a really fun bride and groom who are getting married in June, and they are going with a Boho/Moroccan themed event. Because the couple is so whimsical, we are going with super bright colors, mixed mediums of furniture, lots of lanterns and additional lighting. The guests will lounge on couches surrounded by fire pits, and enjoy the view of the pool that’s filled with floating flowers and candles. It’s always fun when you get to be out of the box!

Some personal questions about Jamie:

Mac or PC? Mac

Tea or Coffee? Coffee preferably Dunkin Doughnuts

Favorite local Nashville restaurant? Etch, Holland House, Edly’s BBQ

Favorite movie right now? I am more on the TV show band wagon House of Cards, Vikings, Game of Thrones etc

Vendor Spotlight- Darcy Ferris Photography

Our first meeting of the year was a great one at Puffy Muffin in Cool Springs (original post here) and we were so glad to have Darcy Ferris there to capture it all. She was also super sweet to do some head shots for some of our planners. Darcy is a wonderful local photographer who specializes in weddings but also loves doing lifestyle sessions, like family, maternity and birthdays, as well!

Today we got to catch up with Darcy to learn more about Darcy Ferris Photography and what her business has to offer!

How did you get into photography?

My Mother always had a some type of camera in her hands, so you could say that my love for photography came from her. She captured the family get togethers, birthdays, weddings, etc. I took photography (film) classes all through junior high and high school as well.

What do you love about photography?

It’s my passion and what fills my soul and makes my cup runneth over. I love capturing moments that no one else sees from the point of view I do. I love that you can look at a photograph that happened four months ago or forty years ago and have the very same feeling you did the day the photo was taken. A photograph is like a song. It can take you back to a specific moment in time. I also love the multiple formats photographs can be in these days. You can carry your photographs in digital form on your phone or get an album and turn the pages.

What would you say is your photography style?

I say that I am a ‘lifestyle’ photographer. By that I mean, It’s very free flowing and moving. I cannot say that I do not pose couples or subjects at all when shooting engagements or weddings. However, I give them as little direction as possible to keep movement natural. Every couple/family is different. If they look like they need more direction, then I’ll give them more. When I capture children in their home, I just let them be. I follow them as if I am a fly on the wall just observing.

Do you shoot digital or film?

At this point in my career, I only shoot digital. At some point, I will incorporate film back in, but for now it’s digital.

Tell us why brides should choose you to capture their wedding day.

First of all, I want the bride (the couple) to be in love with my photographic creations. I want them to love the way I see and capture moments. Next, I want them to like me, my personality, and the way I interact with them. A wedding photographer is with the bride and groom all day (anywhere from 7-10 hours). My couples need to feel comfortable with me. I believe that goes with any photographer. Couples need to relate to their photographers personality. My clients have told me that I am easy to work with, adventurous, a good communicator, and attentive.

Some personal questions about Darcy:

Mac or PC MAC MAC MAC – once you go MAC you’ll never go back =)

Tea or Coffee Tea, sweet or fruit

Favorite Social Media Outlet for Sharing Pictures My website/blog/facebook

Favorite Movie Right Now Identity Theft was the last movie I saw. I’m not a big movie or tv person. I’d rather be outdoors or creating something.
