How did you get into floral design?

My mother was an award winning floral designer (and also had a catering business), so I grew up watching her. I took the career path of education, and I was a classroom teacher for many years. When a friend asked me to design her daughter’s wedding flowers, I jumped right in (although truly I had never designed flowers on my own). That was a success and then others began asking me to design flowers. For a while I worked from my garage, then from a wholesaler flower importer’s space… then it was time to rent a commercial space!

Explain your process of working with a bride.

I do like to meet with brides here at my workshop…I have a nice meeting room area. We discuss options, look at my portfolio, their photos of course they have from Pinterest! I have a showroom (or two) of containers, so that we can actually put them on the table and do a “mock up” of different looks, etc.

What is your favorite flower?

What makes you different from other florists?

I am really not sure what other florists do…however one advantage I have is my very large inventory of containers and props. I do not have a minimum, in fact on my occasions we have just designed a single bride bouquet, if that is all a bride needs.

What is one thing you love to hear in consultation with a bride?

I love to hear that she trusts me to actually DESIGN something unique for her..and not just copy from Pinterest!

Below are a few questions for more about The Cordelle as well as a couple personal questions for the women behind the venue! Contact these ladies for more info or to schedule a tour of the venue!

What makes your venue different from other venues?

The Cordelle is a unique venue because of its versatility and downtown Nashville location. Our indoor/outdoor event space allows for a gorgeous garden setting or an interior backdrop that is part modern and part vintage. The historic Victorian home and new Great Hall come together to set the perfect stage for any event. The furnished Loft also makes The Cordelle truly unique! This organic, yet designed space that is yours for the day of your event… bonus!

COR-299 copy

What is the history of your venue? (How did it get started, etc.)

Saying “YES” to a man popping the question got us into building our idea of the perfect event space! The Cordelle is owned and operated by three long time friends, 1/3 of the trio was looking for a spot to tie the knot in Nashville. In our search we started to see the need for this type of space in downtown. 2 years later there was a new event space for the city and finally a wedding for the couple who sparked the idea:). Now the fun part is getting to share it with couples and hosting their special day!

COR-302 copy

What are some of your wedding and reception options?

The Cordelle is extremely versatile, we have lots of configurations that work. Outdoor garden setting, cocktail style, seated dinner, area for full band performances or DJ, historic backdrop in the Victorian or the modern white space of the Great Hall there are lots of options. In designing the space we wanted to create a venue that didn’t need a ton of decor to make it work and our lighting is on dimmers throughout which sets a tone and atmosphere. For smaller events we can even host rehearsal dinners in our furnished Loft. Causal or refined, small or large guest counts and wedding, reception… or both, The Cordelle is flexible for your design and aesthetic.

COR-332 copy

Does your venue require use of your preferred vendors, or are brides free to bring their own?

At The Cordelle we have an open vendor policy. We do require that vendors are licensed and insured, but you can choose who you would like to be a part of your special day. Our venue also allows clients to provide their own beverage package.

COR-372 copy

In your opinion, which event (or type of event) has most creatively taken advantage of your venue, and what made that event a success?

We recently hosted a reception for 265 guests and the event utilized the entire property. Farm tables and rounds were set in the garden under the canopy of a hundred year old tree, buffet was set on the covered patio with access points in the front and back of the yard. From the outdoor dinner seating the guests were lead into the Great Hall for a cocktail style set-up for drinks, cake cutting and dancing . A bourbon bar was set up in the Victorian with lounge seating and high boy cocktail tables which transitioned into the Great Hall where a large stage and band were performing. The furnished Loft was the perfect place for the newly weds to take a moment together after their ceremony and when they were announced as “Mr & Mrs” exiting from the Loft balcony made a grand entrance. Each area utilized and created a great flow for the event.
