How did you get into floral and event design?

After studying painting at Belmont University, I knew I wanted to do something artistic and work with my hands. On a whim, I asked my sister’s wedding florist for an internship and it all snowballed from there. I worked for other florists for a while and slowly built up my own business before taking the leap and becoming self-employed full time in 2013.

Explain your process of working with a bride.

I truly believe that every single wedding is unique so I work really hard to specialize every wedding to reflect the bride and groom’s distinct taste. People always ask me if I hate Pinterest, but I actually really love getting to scroll through all these different pictures that have caught the bride’s eye. After meeting with a bride and getting acquainted with her vision, I create a custom quote based on her inspiration photos and Pinterest boards. It’s so fun to develop each wedding into something completely tailored to the bride and groom!

What is your favorite flower?

Oh, what a hard question for a floral designer! I love, love, love textured, lush arrangements so I tend to like more unusual flowers like king protea and scabiosa. I’m also always a sucker for any kind of David Austin garden rose!

What makes you different from other florists?

I think my love of texture and variety is what makes my work unique. I love mixing lots and lots of different florals and botanicals to create the perfect color palette.

What’s one thing you love to hear in consultation with a bride?

It’s rare, but I totally love it when the groom actually has opinion about the flowers. I find it so interesting to hear what a guy has to say about flowers, one of the most feminine aspects of wedding planning!
